Angela Tisner is a music composer for film and a cellist, with a unique emphasis on ethnomusicology.
She graduated with honours from La Sorbonne University in Art History and Film, and later earned an MA in Contemporary Culture and Ethnomusicology. Her thesis focused on the Alan Lomax early recordings: "Hard Hitting Songs For Hard-Hit People: How Music Shapes Survival."
In 2021, she received the globally distinguished Fulbright Scholarship and relocated to Los Angeles, California, where she specialised in Film Scoring.
Angela has composed music for prominent artistic and audiovisual projects, including Feel the Sound (Barbican Centre, London), Island in the Sound (Gagosian and the Old Carpet Factory), and A Century of Sounds (Pitt Rivers Oxford's Anthropology Museum).
Her work has been programmed at the Netherlands Film Festival, Espinho Film Fest, the Regards Croisés Residency, the International Music & Cinema Marseille, and Soundtrack Cologne, among others. She is a former member of the MSCN European Academy.
Her work weaves together film scoring, sound art, and the preservation of endangered musical traditions around the world.

Ethnomusicology
Ethnomusicology
A mission to preserve fading musical traditions — to gather them, archive them, and weave them back into sound so that new generations can still feel their pulse. Her most important fieldwork has been following the traces of the blues through Mississippi, Memphis and New Orleans, alongside research carried out in Ethiopia, Romania, Hydra, Corsica, Italy and the Sierra de Francia. Each project begins with a microphone in a distant landscape and ends in the search for unheard sounds from other cultures to carry into cinema, a practice that makes Angela one of the very few ethnomusicology consultants for film in the world.
